附王红军博士研究简介:
Dr. Wang’s early laboratory research focused on animal transgenesis, xenotransplantation and gene therapy. She was instrumental in establishing a transgenic method, sperm-mediated gene transfer, to generate transgenic rabbits that can express porcine growth hormone gene with a high efficiency. During she worked in the University of Rome, she established a line of transgenic pigs that express human Decay Accelerating Factor (hDAF), a critical protein that might prevent graft rejection during xenotransplantation. In addition, she made a seminal finding in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that the bone marrow stromal cells could be divided into neural cells and used as a vector to deliver the therapeutic protein into the brain and correct the brain phenotype. Her current research focuses on studying the protective effects of heme oxygense-1 (HO-1) and its products, carbon monoxide (CO) and bilirverdin/bilirubin, in islets transplantation to treat type 1 diabetes. Her research was published in many international journals such as Anim Biotechnol, Diabetes, Endocrinology, FASEB J, and etc.
